Providing a dominant presence on the Venetian waterfront, Doge’s Palace and its marvellous series of arches continues to impress millions of visitors who come to experience its unique history and Gothic architectural style. For centuries, this place was the centre of the social and political world in Venice as the Doge of Venice – the supreme ruler – lived and governed from here.
Stand at the front of the palace and admire the incredible shapes and biblical figures cut into the intricately designed facade. During peak season, the lines can stretch far into the distance but our special Skip the Line tickets will have you inside without any hassle. You’ll be led through the structure by a professional guide, who will show you the truly exceptional collection of masterpieces that adorn the palace’s monumental rooms. Many of the works date back to the European Middle Ages and your guide will be more than happy to explain the incredible stories behind these historic creations.
We’ll make our way through Doge’s Palace to the Scala d’Oro, otherwise known as the Golden Staircase, which provided dignitaries with a special entrance to the upper levels of the palace. Continuing onwards, we’ll soon arrive at the Bridge of Sighs, a beautifully designed structure that provides a link between the palace and the Venetian prisons. You’ll have the opportunity to head underground and into the cells to get a glimpse of the difficult conditions that the prisoners must have endured. These prisons are also known as the place where renowned author and adventurer Giacomo Casanova was held, although he eventually managed to escape.
Undoubtedly one of Venice’s most famous buildings, Doge’s Palace provides travellers with a remarkable glimpse into ancient history.
