Enjoy free time to explore the Roman Forum at your own pace at the end of the tour
When it comes to visiting Rome, it’s practically impossible to ignore the incredible history that’s found all across the city. Experience the city’s greatest monuments across a three-hour tour on a sunny afternoon as our Ancient Rome and Colosseum Tour leads you through some of Rome’s centuries-old landmarks and offers you a glimpse into their remarkable history.
You can’t take a tour of ancient Rome without also diving into the wonders of the Colosseum, the world’s largest amphitheatre. Opened in AD 80, marvel at the 50,000-seat venue alongside your expert tour guide. Explore the exact spot where gladiators fought colossal battles against each other and vicious animals, while your guide leads you through the extraordinary events that took place in this incredible architectural structure.
Once we’ve finished roaming the Colosseum, you’ll soon make your way up Palatine Hill, which is often said to be the precise place where Romulus founded the city. Enjoy vast panoramic views across Rome.
Then it’s time to experience an array of other ancient Roman landmarks. That means heading to the nearby Roman Forum, a once bustling part of the city that was central to the population’s social, political and commercial interests. Wander the lush green landscape with your guide as you come across a variety of fascinating ruins, including those of the Curia, the Temple, and House of Vestals, the funeral altar of Julius Caesar, the Arch of Titus and many others. Considered one of the most important archaeological findings of the 19th-century, this area took more than a hundred years to fully excavate.
Having explored the greatest highlights of ancient Rome, this is where we conclude our tour. However, you’re free to stay and explore the myriad of ruins and historic monuments that can easily be found within walking distance.
