Admire the historical Ponte Vecchio and browse the vibrant shops
The tour concludes at San Giovanni Square, where you will be in awe of Florence's Duomo and Giotto's Bell Tower.
Your guided tour begins in the grand Republica Square, one of the most elegant of Florence’s squares. Now lined with refined cafes, it was once the site of the city’s forum in ancient Roman times. Continue your tour through the beautiful streets and characteristic alleys to the Loggia del Mercato Nuovo where you can touch the nose of the Porcellino bronze statue (a wild boar) to win good luck.
The next stop will be the Ponte Vecchio, an enclosed bridge lined with exclusive jewellery stores. An icon of Florence, it was the only bridge to survive the bombings of the Second World War. After leaving the bridge you will walk to the Accademia dei Georgofili and the Uffizi Square.
If you’re an appreciator of art then you will love the next stop, Signoria Square. Like an open-air art gallery, the square has a replica of Michelangelo’s David as well as Bandinelli’s Hercules and Cacus. The square is dominated by the Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia Dei Lanzi. The latter houses beautiful original statues including the defiant Perseus By Cellini and the dramatic Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna.
Conclude your tour in grand style at the San Giovanni Square. Home to Florence’s crowning glory, the Duomo, which displays some of the most impressive architecture in the city. Admire the green and white marble exterior which is capped by the red-tiled dome designed by Brunelleschi. Standing beside it is the octagonal baptistery with its replica Gates of Paradise (the originals are in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo). All watched over by Giotto’s Bell Tower, the square is a spectacular place to explore.
After your journey discovering the cradle of the Renaissance, you will have gained a new appreciation for this incredible city. Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in the world we hope that this tour helps you to love it as much as we do!
