Guided tour of the Accademia Gallery
Marvel at many stunning artwork pieces including the Statue of David, San Matteo and I Prigioni
Further explore the Accademia Gallery at your own pace at the end of the tour
With a remarkable number of galleries, museums and cultural institutions to explore across Florence, it’s not much of a surprise that the city remains one of Italy’s top destinations. At the centre of it all is the Accademia Gallery, which for more than two hundred years has been giving visitors a chance to experience the very best art from the Renaissance-era, including many of Michelangelo’s most significant creations.
Join your art-loving guide as you take an afternoon tour inside the gallery’s hallowed walls and discover why this is one of Florence’s most popular places to visit. Featuring a stunning range of artworks spanning across several centuries, Michelangelo’s work remains the most prized here as you get to experience first-hand many of his early and unfinished pieces, including ‘San Matteo’ and ‘I Prigioni’, which are some of his most admired. However, the headline artwork is, of course, the huge statue of David, which is the actual priceless masterpiece rather than the replica that can be found at the nearby Piazza della Signoria.
Led by your expert guide around the gallery, you’ll get to learn about many of the incredible details behind Michelangelo’s life and rise as one of history’s most enduring artists. Throughout his extensive career as a painter, sculptor, architect and poet, the Caprese-born artist also fell upon hard times as his devout religiousness clashed with personal desires that he struggled to keep a secret.
Some of the Accademia’s Gallery’s most unique works of Michelangelo’s are the so-called ‘Non-finito’, or unfinished collection. Widely considered some of the most interesting artwork created during his career, while it appears that the figures rising from the slabs of marble might be incomplete, many historians speculate that these works were left deliberately unfinished as they represent a personal manifestation of the troubles Michelangelo suffered throughout his life.
Join us as we explore many of history’s greatest artists across an immersive 75-minute tour of the Accademia Gallery. Once you reach the end of our engaging adventure, you’re free to stay inside the gallery as long as you like – or even set about seeing everything again from the very beginning.
