Journey on GT Coach to Piazzale Michelangelo and Fiesole for stunning views of Florence
Come face to face with Michelangelo's Statue of David, plus other impressive works at the Accademia Gallery
Wander the charming streets of Florence to the Piazza Duomo to discover the beauty and history behind Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery, Brunelleschi's Dome and more
For those that love history and art, you could spend a lifetime exploring the streets of Florence and still not uncover everything on display. However, this tour of the Accademia Gallery and Florence’s most prominent sights puts you in good stead as we jam-pack a huge wealth of landmarks into this tour in less than three hours.
Our day begins with two stunning views across the city. The first being from Piazzale Michelangelo, a popular square that sits high above the banks of the Arno River and looks out across the city’s charming terracotta rooftops. Soak up the atmosphere and enjoy an espresso at one of the many vendors, while there’s also a replica bronze statue of Michelangelo’s “David” found here. To get a different perspective on the city, your expert guide will lead you to the city’s outer reaches and the town of Fiesole. Set high above Florence, this leafy community offers a spectacular vista back across the city approximately 5-kilometres away.
Making our way back into the hustle and bustle of the city streets, we’ll now set about exploring many of Florence’s most famous landmarks, including Brunelleschi’s Cupola, the Palazzo Vecchio and many of the city’s stunning ancient churches. Then it’s time to head to the Accademia Gallery, perhaps Florence’s most popular and highly regarded museum, as well as the place to see many of Michelangelo’s most celebrated artworks.
From the world-famous statue of ‘David’ to the prized unfinished works called ‘Prigioni’, and ‘San Matteo,’ your professional guide will be there to explain the significance of these artworks, while also growing your appreciation for Michelangelo as an artist and a figure that has remained admired throughout history.
Coming towards the end of this fascinating afternoon tour, once we leave the Accademia Gallery we’ll pass through Florence’s vibrant streets on the way to Piazza Duomo. Spread across this vast space are landmarks such as Giotto’s Belltower and the ornate Florence Baptistery as you get an up-close look at its striking bronze and golden doors.
With so much to see and do throughout Florence, getting around and seeing it all is a challenge. But this immersive afternoon tour is sure to help you tick off many of the absolute must-see locations on your list as you make the most of your time in this astounding city.
