Explore the highlights of Pisa with our local guide. Marvel at the stunning Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta
Explore some of the most iconic landmarks of Italy - the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Square of Miracles. Upgrade to include tower entrance tickets if you wish to climb the stairs to the top!
Considered one of the most stunning architectural complexes in the world, Pisa’s Square of Miracles is simply unlike any other ancient marvel in Italy. And if you’ve only got a short amount of time to head along and experience its grandeur, then our tour provides you with the perfect opportunity. Join us as you get to experience the beautiful green lawns and get within touching distance of the world-famous marble structures that are spread out across this popular square.
Visited by millions of history and culture lovers each year, this sprawling place features four marvellous buildings that we’ll explore throughout the hour. With so much ancient history on display, it’s a good thing that you’ll be led around by an expert local guide who’ll be on-hand to provide you with excellent insight into the fascinating stories about the square’s beginnings and its survival across more than a thousand years.
Built in 1064, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is regarded as one of the greatest remaining examples of Pisan Romanesque architecture anywhere in the world. And we’ll make sure we take a rapid tour inside its astounding space as we get an up-close look at the Byzantine and Islamic-inspired styling that can be found throughout the structure’s design. While parts of the cathedral were damaged by fire during the late 16th-century, many of the priceless artefacts remained untouched, including Cimabue’s mosaic of St John the Evangelist and the ornate Pulpit.
Once we’ve finished exploring inside the cathedral, we’ll return to sunny daylight as you get the chance to roam the square before we set our eyes upon both the striking Camposanto and the Baptistery. Once we’ve learned about these wonderful buildings, the only thing left to do on our tour is to spend plenty of time exploring the headline landmark that remains a symbol of Italy, the Leaning Tower. It’s entirely worth taking a trip to Pisa just to experience the Leaning Tower in all of its glory, but the square as a whole combines to become one of Italy’s most unmissable destinations.
This one-hour tour might be short in duration, but the remarkable icons of Pisa that you’ll get to experience throughout are so impressive that you’ll likely find them wonderfully unforgettable.
